Newtown Bathroom Renovation: Main Bathroom and New Powder Room

A complete change to the upstairs bathroom
The original bathroom was narrow, dated and poorly laid out. We removed a wall to enlarge the room and rebuilt the space around a more practical layout. The finished bathroom now includes a freestanding bath, open shower, wall-hung timber vanity, mirrored storage and full-height finishes that suit the character of the home.
We retained the original stained-glass window and worked it into the new design. A new skylight brings natural light into the room, while the dark feature tiles and timber vanity give the bathroom a stronger finish without making it feel heavy.
A new powder room beneath the stairs
The area beneath the stairs was previously dead space. We converted it into a fully functional powder room with new plumbing, electrical work, wall linings, ventilation, lighting and finishes.
The room is compact, so every detail had to work. A wall-hung basin keeps the floor clear, the round mirror suits the narrow wall, and the black-and-gold finishes give the room its own identity. From the hallway, the powder room sits neatly behind custom doors beneath the original staircase.
The difficult part
Older Newtown homes rarely open up without surprises. Upstairs, we uncovered a slab built over timber flooring. The new powder room also had to be created from scratch in a restricted area beneath the stairs. Both spaces required careful coordination between demolition, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tiling and fit-off.
Our team managed the work from demolition through to completion and delivered both rooms in four weeks.
